Apple and the iPhone are back in the news today and this time it’s a good thing. Apple has taken a lot of heat in recent weeks because they rejected Google’s application submission of Google Voice among other applications but I won’t talk about that too much. Well, maybe a little. I don’t know if its Apple or AT&T that’s behind all this but they need to realize something. The only reason you’re as successful as you are is because of us, the consumer. You create products that we want and we buy them, basic supply and demand. I’m not sure if Apple read any comments or forums posted around the Internet but if they did they would realize their consumers WANT these applications. So much in fact many ‘Apple fanboys’ are planning on boycotting Apple. Now I don’t run a multi-million dollar company but that doesn’t seem like a good business move.
Back to our main topic. GPush was released yesterday for the iPhone that takes advantage of the iPhones notifications service in the 3.0 OS. As you can imagine GPush does exactly as the name would suggest, it a Gmail push service. For those of you that don’t know, push email automatically sends your email to mobile devices instantly when you receive them in your inbox. This is one service that Microsoft Exchange and Outlook does that Gmail and most other email providers have been lacking. Most business and corporations use Exchange because of this feature and it has been hard for Google and Google apps to break in to that market. Hopefully with applications like this those days are behind us. There is still along way to go but I have no doubt we will get there.
