For the most part, the ads in Gmail are fairly easy to ignore, plus since I find Gmail to be an awesome free email service, I haven’t really ever been bothered by it. But apparently there are some people who are, as there are blog posts circulating the Internet about how to stop the ads you see in your Gmail.
Most free web-based email services inject adds along-side your email while you are reading it. Google, however, takes this one step further and actually displays adds based on the content of the email message you are viewing. For example, if you are reading a message from a fiend about going rock climbing, you will more than likely see adds about the climbing.
According to posts on LifeHacker and BoingBoing, by adding words that involve tragedy or horrific events you can effectively remove the adds from your email. An article on PCWorld gives a great example of why Google might be doing this by saying, “Google probably does this since it doesn’t want to offend you by running messages for funeral parlors or medical insurance next to an e-mail reporting on a loved one’s death or illness.”
According to the LifeHacker article, using the following couple of sentences at the end of your email messages removes the adds with almost perfection:
“I enjoy the massacre of ads. This sentence will slaughter ads without a messy bloodbath.”
So there you have it! If you are sick and tired of seeing those ads, pass this article on to your Gmail friends and have them add that to the end of their messages!
