Sprint has announced that they are coming out with a couple of new devices that will allow you to share your Sprint 3G or WiMax connection with other WiFi-enabled devices such as notebooks and more. Only problem is, the only place you can get WiMax from Sprint at this point is in Baltimore.
In an article on Wired, they say that they are offering two different box’s. The first of which will allow 4 devices to connect and is designed for personal use and runs for around $160. In addition to that, there will be a larger router available that is aimed at small offices and will allow 32 devices to connect and runs around $250.
The boxes are only available in areas in which Sprint offers WiMax service, which unforunately is only in Baltimore at this point, but accordning to a press release from Sprint, there are plans to expand that service to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Portland, and Seattle in 2009. Sprint 4G offers an average downlink speed of 3-6Mbps and peak downlink speeds of over 10Mpbs, which is 3-5 times faster than todays 3G speeds.
