Something just dawned on me… Microsoft is in hot water in Europe about selling its Windows operating system with Internet Explorer bundled, but doesn’t OS X come with Safari? What about that?
Now before I start getting bashed as a Microsoft lover or a Mac hater, let me explain that my point in this case is neither pro-Micorosft or anti-Apple. In my opinion, both Windows and OS X are great operating systems. I just tend to lean towards PC mainly because, for the most part, it is cheaper to.
In an article I wrote for Geek or Nerd a few weeks ago, Microsoft: Antitrust Talks with EU, I discussed that Microsoft may be releasing a copy of Windows 7 that does not contain Internet Explorer in Europe. From my understanding, OS X ships with Safari and in the newer versions of OS X, I beleive that is the only browser it ships with. So where are Apple’s antitrust court dates? Not that I think this is an antitrust situation to begin with, but seriously, isn’t that the same thing?
I do not feel that in either case, whether is be IE being packaged with Windows or Safari packaged with OS X, that there is a need for an antitust lawsuit. If you do not want to use them, download one of the many free browsers, install it, and make if the default. It’s not rocket science and if you think it is, you should probably just use the default browser to begin with.
