In a blog post on July 7, 2009, Google introduced Chrome OS. What a minute… OS? As in Operating System? Exactly!
Google Chrome was release around nine months ago and Google designed Chrome targeting people who live on the Internet and today over 30 million Internet users use it regularly. The problem as Google sees it, however, is that the operation systems in which browsers run on was designed in an era where the Internet was nothing like it is today, if you even had access to it.
The blog post reads, “Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010.”
Google is planning the OS to be a speedy, but lightweight OS that can get users up and on the web in a few seconds and will run on both x86 and ARM processors. Google Chrome OS will run withing a windowing system on top of a linux kernel.
