Review: Resident Evil 5

Review: Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is definitely the best game of the series.  The previous games were creepy, puzzling, and a blast to play.  Resident Evil 5 definitely does not disappoint the gamer or bring the series down even though the story has been twisted from the first game.  This game expands on the over the shoulder aiming system of Resident Evil 4.  This view takes a little getting used to but after playing for a few minutes and it becomes really easy.  This game takes place after 4 with some new twists as well as the return of one of our favorite series villains Wesker.

The graphics are simply amazing and borderline orgasmic.  The cinematics are mostly interactive and generally interesting.  This game is definitely eye candy.  There are a lot of different weapons which can be upgraded to help with damage, reload speed, capacity, and special features as well (zooming, range, etc).  There are treasures, gold, blue emblems, and things to look for throughout the game as well.  This game keeps the player interested and addicted throughout the whole game.  There are some puzzles and quite a few boss monsters to challenge you through this game.

The zombies in this game are not like the zombies from the first games but more like the ones in 4.  The enemies have a variety of weapons from blades to gatlinguns. They run, climb through windows and doors, set traps, along with many other traits to keep you on your toes.  This game also has a co-op campaign which is a riot to play with your friends.  You can trade ammo, grenades, first-aid, and things like that making it more team oriented.  Teammates heal each other from dying status, and help each other over obstacles, and stuff like that.

After completing the campaign there is a bonus game called mercenaries where you are sent in alone to different maps to fight never ending zombies until you run out of time.  In this game you rack up points by killing zombies; the more you kill the higher the combo bonus goes giving you more points, which in the end gives you a rank.  If you get an A in a map you unlock another character to play as which has different weapon setups.  If you get a B in a map you unlock another map to play on.  This bonus game is awesome and easy to play for hours by yourself or with friends online.

This game has a great replay value and is well worth the money.  There is also a downloadable game type where you can play deathmatch type games against other players.  This content is ok but you might as well save your money for something else it is fun but takes forever to get into a game.  I have played through this game’s story mode many times by myself and with friends and I’m still not bored of it.  There are four difficulty levels in the campaign as well. This game is definitely one of my favorites of this year so far and I definitely recommend it especially for fans of the series.
