For the last couple of months there has been quite a buzz going around in the iPod world. Multiple sites claim that they have anonymous sources that say that iPods may be getting cameras!
With the release of the iPhone 3G S, there has been a lot of hype about the capabilities of the camera that is part of the phone. The quality is near-H, the iPhone has great basic editing software, and videos can be uploaded to YouTube over Wifi or the cell network.
According the an article on TechCrunch, their sources in Asia say that “Apple has placed an order for a massive number of camera modules of the type that they include in the iPhone. These are inexpensive cameras, in the $10 range. And the size of the order, our source says, means they can only be used for one thing – the iPods.”
There is also a post on MacRumors that shows cases for the iPod Nano that have an extra hole in the back of them that is presumably for the camera which adds to this possible iPod upgrade.
So if cameras are coming to the iPod, when can you expect to see them? HardMac says that they received information from one of their sources in mid-May saying that Apple should be refreshing its models for the iPod in September and the iPod nano and the iPod Touch should both now include a camera, similar to the iPhone.
