Gmail which has been in beta for more than 5 years, along with Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Talk, collectively referred to as Google Apps, finally reached the extremely high bar required to strip itself of the “beta” label.
According to a blog post on The Official Google Blog, as of July 7, 2009 Google will start removing the beta insignia from the Google Apps product logos. Google Apps is currently used by over 1.75 million businesses and organizations around the world, including Google.
Google may be removing the beta status for Google Apps, however, they are still adding new features, most of which are aimed at large enterprise accounts. Email delegation which allows support staff to screen and send email on behalf of others, and email retention so that IT administrators can setup policies to retain certain email messages based on any restrictions set by their industry. There are also tools available now to aid in switching from Microsoft Exchange as well as Lotus Notes. Google has also been working on tools such as offline access, BlackBerry support, and Microsoft Outlook Support.
Google Apps is a great resource for small and large businesses as well as for personal use. If you have not already, check it out!
