A few years ago Nintendo was able to accomplish something you wouldn’t expect from a game manufacturing company. It got young people off their fat lazy @$$ and made them enjoy something a little more active. Not only did they make us feel like MVP’s of the NFL by putting us in the game but they PUT US IN THE GAME. Gamers have always wanted a more realistic feel to their games and for the first time they can. Unfortunately it’s for a system that has crappy graphics and is meant for kids but it’s a start. If you’ve been waiting for that experience for the PC, wait no further because it is here. The method is still a little buggy but for the most part it works well. It’s also pretty easy to setup. I’ve included a video at the bottom of the page (Not Me). Enjoy.
Items needed:
- Bluetooth adapter
- GlovePIE application (Wii Driver)
- Wii Controller
- Wii Sensor
Step 1: Make sure your Bluetooth adapter is installed and connected to your PC or laptop.
Step 2: Head over to http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download to download the latest copy of GlovePIE
Step 3: Now we need to put the Wii controller into ‘discovery mode’ by pressing both the ‘1’ and ‘2’ buttons. (The LED lights will start flashing)
Step 4: Next open up the Bluetooth settings on your PC. We are looking for an option to create a new Bluetooth connection.
Step 5: Your PC should now find the Wii remote and connect. There is no pairing code for the Wii so just leave it blank. The Wii remote should show up as Nintendo RVL-CNT-01. To connect multiple Wii Remotes repeat steps 3, 4 and 5. They will show up as Nintendo RVL-CNT-02, 03, 04 and so on.
Step 6: Now turn on your Wii and place the sensor bar under your TV or Monitor. You need to use the Sensor bar if you plan on using the Wiimote as a mouse. If you only plan on using the Wiimote as a remote control for Media Center then you do not need the sensor and you can move on to the next step.
Step 7: Once your Wii remote(s) are connected you can open up GlovePIE and load a profile or script (it comes with 90+). Click ‘File’ – ‘Open’ – Navigate to the ‘WiimoteScripts’ folder inside the GlovePIE folder and click on the script you want to run. They have already created scripts for many applications such as WiiMouse, Media Center and even games like Battlefield and Call of Duty (We’ll get to these in another DIY article. Maybe a homemade VR Game Gun.)
Step 8: Finally once you have selected your script click ‘Run’ inside of GlovePIE and your all set. Enjoy
Below is a video for setting up the Wiimote on your PC found on youtube.com
